Leaving Siena and heading south towards the Brunello area, we will find Buonconvento, one of the mostbeautiful villages in Italy. We will stop for a short walk in this fascinating town built in the 14th century andstart our journey in time.
Further south, in the heart of the Orcia Valley, Montalcino is situated on top of a hill overlooking thevineyards and the landscape this area is worldwide known for. Beautiful and charming streets cross thismonumental town which will fascinate you with its local products and historical sites.
Montalcino offers many attractions: the 14th-century Fortress stands above the town, and can be climbedtill its marvelous towers. Piazza del Popolo, the main square, beside the ancient City Hall, has a curiousshape and a nice portico, while a breath-taking view can be enjoyed from the walk called "Madonna", on top of the ancient city walls.
Not far from Montalcino, the Romanesque Sant'Antimo Abbey stands out in a marvelous landscape: thechurch is one of the most ancient constructions in the Sienese area, connected to a legend aboutCharlemagne and its army.
