Because of its relevant historical importance, its particular and preserved architecture, San Gimignano isenlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its must-seen towers are amazingly distributed along thealleys, and gave the town its modern nickname of "Manhattan of the Middle Ages". Its churches andmuseums are rich in historical facts, frescoes and sacred paintings that connect San Gimignano to the political and artistic history of Tuscany and Italy, too. Walking along the charming alleys, you will findvarious shops and workshops of local artisans, do not miss this opportunity to watch these incredible artistsas they work and create unique pieces of art.
The local wine, Vernaccia, is the only white wine produced in the Sienese area and labelled as a DOCG. Itsrecipe still follows the Medieval version of this wine, and it is particularly suggested to be tasted with ourlocal meals. Moreover, San Gimignano hosts one of the best gelato makers, Sergio Dondoli: his gelato tasting will be another must-do activity of this trip.
