TOUR DETAILS
During this tour you are going to visit: the famous Crete Senesi, the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore and Montalcino. What you are going to experience: a wine-tasting from a selection of more than 100 local wines, a winery tour, a lunch in a typical Italian “trattoria” and lastly, in the Abbey of Sant’Antimo you will also listen to the Gregorian chants.
SCHEDULE
Our tour begins with the visit to the majestic Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore. The building, which was established in the XIV century, is located in the middle of the so called Accona Desert, an area of incredible aridity of the Crete Senesi which surrounds the monastery. The abbey complex, which is head house of the Benedictine Order, preserves some artistic and historical masterpieces, such as the Chiostro Grande, – an entirely frescoed cloister at the beginning of 1500 – the refectory, the library, the pharmacy and of course the church.
The itinerary carries on towards Montalcino, where besides visiting the fortress and the picturesque narrow streets of its old town, you will also have the opportunity to taste the famous local red wine, the Brunello of Montalcino.
The lunch will be served in a trattoria, a typical Italian restaurant, where you will taste the traditional Tuscan cuisine.
Later on there will be a tour of the Abbey of Sant’Antimo as planned, where you will attend the Gregorian chants.
From the abbey, in a few minutes, we will reach Pienza, a town entirely designed during the High Renaissance by its most distinguished citizen, Pius II Piccolomini. Strolling through its narrow alleys you can taste the delicious pecorino, you can visit the main church and enjoy the view over the Val d’Orcia.

EXTENTION 1
If you decide to continue your tour, we will head to Montepulciano. This small medieval town not only is well-known for its Nobile wine production, but also for being the location of some renowned films, including Under The Tuscan Sun and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
EXTENTION 2
If you are an adventure seeker, we have organize a truffle hunting for you! You will start the hunting early morning in the woods of Crete Senesi. You will meet your guide there with his trusted highly trained dogs! The truffle hunt starts from early morning and will last approximatively an hour and a half and then this adventure will close with a delicious Tuscan hunter’s traditional lunch.
